MAD Festival Princesses, 1979. These five black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show ten young women posing both individually and as a group. All of the young women are wearing matching sleeveless, floor-length gowns. They are also wearing sashes which show what organization was sponsoring them as contestants. In all of the images in which the young women are posing individually, they are all seated on a bench. All of these images were captured in a park-like setting.
Image 11 shows a young woman wearing a sash which reads "ARCTIC CIRCLE." Images 12 and 13 are effectively identical to the previous image. Image 14 shows a young woman wearing a sash which reads "LACEY REALTY." Images 15 and 16 are effectively identical to image 14. Image 17 shows a young woman wearing a sash which reads "HAWKS PRAIRIE." Images 18 and 19 are effectively identical to the previous image. Image 20 shows a young woman wearing a sash which reads "WESTWATER INN." Images 21 and 22 are effectively identical to image 20. Image 23 shows a young woman wearing a sash which reads "ST. MARTIN'S COLLEGE." Images 24 and 25 are effectively identical to image 23. Image 26 shows the ten young women all posing together for photos. The contestants are arranged in a V-shape, with the open end oriented toward the camera. The tallest of the contestants are on the far left and far right, and the least tall contestants are at the center. Images 27-31 are effectively identical to image 26. Image 32 is similar to the previous group photos, but here the least-tall contestants are at the far left and far right, and the tallest contestants are at center. Images 33 and 34 are nearly identical to image 32.Made/Created
