Description

Lacey Bank Planning and Groundbreaking, 1979. These five black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show an outdoor groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lacey Bank building, and an indoor reception event taking place in the temporary building which the bank operated out of while the permanent structure was being constructed. The temporary structure was a mobile home. Image 9 shows four men and three women inside of the temporary bank building. Some are standing and some are seated amongst several desks. A man in a hat is visible in the background looking out the window. Image 10 shows two men in trenchcoats standing on a very small platform in a grassy field. They are taking part in the groundbreaking ceremony. The man on the right is Doug Prull, president of Lacey Bank. The man on the left is wearing a fedora, holding a shovel, and looking away from the camera. Image 11 shows the small crowd of people watching the groundbreaking ceremony. Doug Prull and the other man on the small platform are visible on the right-hand side of the image. The mobile home housing the bank is visible in the background. Image 12 shows Mr. Prull and the unknown man standing on the small platform. Mr. Prull has his hands behind his back and the unknown man is facing the spectators. Image 13 shows the unknown man taking a shovelful of dirt out of the ground. Image 14 shows another unknown man in a trenchcoat digging with the shovel. Images 15-17 each show a different man digging with the shovel. Image 18 shows Karen Fraser at left, Doug Prull at center, and an unknown man on the right. The three are cooperatively holding up a model of the permanent bank building. They are inside the temporary bank building. All three are looking toward the camera and smiling. Images 19 through 22 are nearly identical to image 18. Image 23 shows four women standing in a semi-circle and speaking to each other. The woman at the far left is looking toward the camera. A man wearing a jacket over a plaid shirt is visible at the right-hand edge of the image frame. Image 24 shows one woman and two men standing together and talking. The man at the center is holding a cigarette. Image 25 shows Ed Bagley at the center of the image and an unknown woman at right. An unknown man is visible sipping from a cup in the background on the left-hand side of the image. Mr. Bagley and the unknown woman are smiling and looking off toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 26 shows Karen Fraser speaking with Doug Prull. Ms. Fraser is at left and Mr. Prull is on the right. A sign behind Ms. Fraser shows the bank's hours. Image 27 shows a man in a trenchcoat touching the newsboy-style cap on his head. Image 41 shows one woman at left walking toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Two women on the right-hand side of the image are standing at a long counter. The nearer of these two women is working with a typewriter. Image 42 shows four men standing in a circle and talking. These men are, from left to right: an unknown man, Ed Bagley, another unknown man, and Ken Balsley. Image 43 shows four unknown women standing in a semi-circle. The woman at left is looking downward. The three other women are holding coffee cups and facing in the general direction of the camera. Image 44 shows a man in glasses with a mustache at left speaking to Doug Prull, who is at right. The permanent Lacey Bank building was located at 721 College Street in Lacey, Washington. ("Bank Building Plans Ready," Daily Olympian, 11/14/1979)
