Description

Tumwater Falls Park, Unknown Date. These four black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show various areas in Tumwater Falls Park. Some of the images have people and/or wildlife in them. Image 12 shows a bridge over the falls. Image 13 shows a man and woman looking over the falls. The man and woman are near the right-hand edge of the image. The falls occupy most of the image. Image 14 shows five people and one dog on a walkway alongside the falls. Image 15 shows a head-on view of the main (tallest) waterfall along the Tumwater Falls. Image 16 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 17 is very similar to the previous image, but here a man standing on a rock is visible on the right-hand edge of the image. The man's body is turned partially toward the right-hand edge of the image frame. Image 18 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is turned toward the waterfall. Image 19 shows a series of concrete rectangles at the edge of the river. These concrete rectangles appear to be a fish ladder. Image 20 shows a part of the river. Image 21 shows a bird perched on top of a rock out in the river. Image 22 shows people walking across a bridge. The people and bridge are partially obscured behind many tree branches in the foreground. Image 23 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 24 looks downstream on a section of the river toward the old Olympia Brewhouse. The Brewhouse is mostly obscured by trees. Image 25 shows some broken trees and branches leaning over the river. Image 26 shows a portion of the river. A wooden, railed platform is visible on the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 27 shows a man and woman in a canoe out on the river. Image 28 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 29 shows a man in a plaid shirt posing for a portrait-style photo. Image 30 shows a closer-up view of the fish ladder. Image 31 shows three young men walking on a trail alongside the river. Image 32 shows the fish ladder. Image 33 shows the visitor's center at Tumwater Falls Park. The then-operational Olympia Brewing Company plant is visible in the background. The right-hand side of image 34 is cut off. The remaining portion of the image appears to show a many standing on an unusually-shaped platform.
