MAD Festival, 1976. These six black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show people engaged in various activities at the 1976 Music, Art and Dance Festival in Lacey, Washington.
Image 3 shows three women passing buckets full of water to each other. They appear to be participating in a bucket-line race. Many spectators are visible in the background. Image 4 shows a boy wearing an ADIDAS sweatshirt. Image 5 shows a boy running past a metal tub. Image 6 shows a young person holding a snowboard and two long pieces of paper. Image 7 shows 4-5 men pulling a hose cart. Image 8 shows four men standing around a hose cart. Image 8 shows two men standing. Image 10 shows a man with a beard in a hat. Image 11 shows four small children lined up in a row, each child wearing an adult-sized pair of firefighter's pants. Four men are helping the children stand. Image 12 shows a screaming baby being picked up by a man. Image 13 shows a baby. Image 14 shows a man with a beard in a hat yelling in the midst of a crowd of people. Image 14 shows a man being fed a piece of pie held by another person. Images 16 through 19 all show men eating pie from another person's hand. Image 20 is very overexposed, but appears to show several people standing in a group. Images 21 through 23 are too overexposed to make out. Image 24 shows several people holding onto a firehose. Image 25 shows an early fire engine parked in front of a railroad car converted into a stage. Images 26 through 29 are too overexposed to make out. Image 30 shows three people holding a spraying firehose down on the ground. Image 31 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 32 shows two people holding the end of the firehose, which is not charged. Image 33 is effectively identical to the previous image. Image 34 shows several people standing on the back end of a fire engine. Image 35 shows three women holding a spraying firehose. Image 36 is effectively identical to the previous image. Image 37 shows two people holding the end of an uncharged firehose.
Printed at intervals along one long edge of each of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."Made/Created
