MAD Festival, 1979. These seven black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show Miss Thurston County contestants in matching sun dresses sitting in a living room with other women, and six of the contestants posing for photos with an older woman. Image 44a has the left-hand 1/3 cut off. The remaining portion of the image shows contestants sitting in a living room with other, older women. Images 1a through 7a show different shots of these women sitting in the living room. Images 9a through 20a show six contestants posing for photos with an older woman in a blazer and turtleneck. All of these images were captured in a yard.
The images in group "b" show people riding on motorcycles and people riding on a parade float. Images 17b and 18b show people riding motorcycles in the MAD Fest parade. Images 19b through 28b shows what appears to be three members of a brass band dressed as members of a barbershop quartet riding a parade float. There are also three other people riding on the float. The side of the float reads "LACEY'S GOING MAD."
All of the images in group "c" (13c through 18c) show people standing in a field.Made/Created
