MAD Festival, 1979. These seven black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show various scenes of the 1979 MAD Festival in Lacey, Washington.
Image 12 shows several men dressed as combinations of clowns and firefighters accompanying an early automobile in the MAD Festival parade. Th automobile has several signs on it, one of which reads "MEDIC ONE." There is also a person riding in a metal tub on top of the automobile. Images 13-15 show the clowns and car moving progressively closer to the camera. Image 16 shows people riding motorcycles in the parade.
Image 20 is cut off. Image 21 shows a young woman in a dress singing or speaking into a microphone. Images 22-25 are effectively identical to image 21. Image 26 shows a young woman in a dress and tiara playing a piano. Image 27 shows a young woman in an elaborate dress and hat performing a dance. Images 28 and 29 also show this young woman dancing. Images 30-32 show a young woman playing piano. Images 33-36 show a young woman speaking or singing into a microphone. Imae 37 shows a man in a suit speaking or singing into a microphone. Images 38-41 show a woman playing piano. Image 42 shows a man speaking into a microphone. Image 43 shows a person wearing an elaorate headpiece and a grass skirt performing a dance.
