MAD Festival, Unknown Dates. These seven black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show the crowning of a Miss Thurston County and young women individually singing at a MAD Festival. All of these images were captured in the Capital Pavilion. Image 6a shows two young women standing around in gowns and capes. One may be wearing a tiara. Neither is facing the camera. Image 7a shows approximately five young women standing around in a circle and wearing gowns and capes. Image 8a shows a young woman wearing a tiara, cape and gown and holding a bouquet of flowers. Images 9a and 10a are effectively identical to image 8a. Image 16a shows Dick Pust wearing a tuxedo and holding a microphone. Image 17a shows a young woman in a long dress walking. Image 18a shows the woman from the previous image singing into a microphone. Image 19a is effectively identical to the previous image. Image 20a shows a different young woman in a long dress singing. Image 21a shows the woman from the previous image walking. Image 22a shows yet another young woman singing. Image 23a is effectively identical to the previous image. Image 24a is effectively identical to the previous image. Image 25a shows the young woman from the previous two images walking. Images 26a and 27a show another young woman singing. Image 28a shows another young woman singing. Images 29a show another young woman singing. Image 40a shows a woman wearing a gown and tiara and holding a bouquet standing next to a man in a tuxedo from a great distance. Images 41a and 42a show the woman holding the bouquet. Image 43a shows two women hugging as to other women look at them. Image 44a is effectively identical to the previous image.
The images in group "b" show a bearded man creating a ceramic bowl on a potter's wheel. The two images (28b and 29b) are nearly identical to each other.
There is one strip in this group that does is not in the corresponding film negatives. There are two images on this strip, and they appear to show people building a parade float.Made/Created
