Description

MAD Festival, Unknown Dates. These seven black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show various scenes associated with a MAD Festival. Image 11a is too overexposed to make out. Image 12a shows a man and two women on a stage. A Lacey MAD Festival banner is visible hanging behind these people. Images 13a and 14a show a group of children singing along with a man playing acoustic guitar. Image 15a shows Johnny Lewis's band performing on stage. Images 18a and 19a show Dick Pust holding a microphone to another man's face. Image 20a shows a woman singing or speaking into a microphone held in her right hand and holding a Raggedy Ann doll in her left hand. Image 27a shows a woman in profile singing or speaking into a microphone. She is pointing out in front of herself with her right hand. Image 28a is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman is flailing her left arm. Image 29a shows the woman from the front. Image 30a shows some people sitting at a table. There are three overlapping images occupying the area adjacent to the physical numbers 31 and 32. These three images show children eating. Image 33a shows two men sitting at a sound board. Image 34a shows two people on stage. The image is too underexposed to make out details. Image 35a shows a band playing on stage. The areas adjacent to the physical numbers 37-40 contains 4-5 overlapping images. The overlapping makes it difficult to make out any individual image. The images in group "b" (19b through 23b all show a woman performing a dance routine while holding a riding crop. Printed in alternation along one long edge of each of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
