Karen Fraser, Arbor Day, 1979. These eight black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show Karen Fraser, several unknown adults and many unknown children participating in an Arbor Day tree planting project. At least most of these images were captured outside the Lacey City Hall.
Image 16 shows a crowd of many children and two women looking toward a woman in the background. The woman in the background appears to be addressing the crowd. The Lacey City Hall is partially visible in the background. Karen Fraser is visible looking toward the ground on the right-hand side of the image. Image 17 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 18 shows Karen Fraser addressing the crowd. Ms. Fraser is on the right-hand side of the image, facing toward the left. Image 19 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 20 also shows Ms. Fraser addressing the crowd, but here she is on the left-hand side of the image and facing toward the right. Image 21 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 22 shows Karen Fraser at the center of the image beginning to dig a hole with a shovel. An unknown man in a jacket is to the left of Ms. Fraser, and an unknown man in a suit is to the right of Ms. Fraser. The men are looking down toward the hole. Images 23 through 27 show Ms. Fraser digging the hole. Images 28 and 29 show the man in the jacket digging the hole. Images 29 through 32 show Ms. Fraser and the man in the suit planting a very small tree sapling in the hole. Images 33 and 34 are blank. Images 36 through 44 and 1 through 10 all show a group of children, most or all girls, and several women standing in a group while different children take turns digging holes.
Printed at intervals along one long edge of all of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
