Mima Mounds, 1979. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader. These images show low mounds of soil in an open area surrounded by trees.
Image 19 shows a set of railroad tracks going through some Mima mounds. Images 20 through 24 show an area of the Mima mounds with cows grazing on them. Image 25 shows some Mima mounds with no people or animals in the shot. Images 26 and 27 show some railroad tracks going through some Mima mounds. Images 28 through 31 show close-ups of individual mounds. Images 32 and 33 show close-ups of mounds with the photographer's foot in the image, presumably for scale. The right-hand half of image 33 is cut off.
The Mima Mounds are naturally-occurring soil formations, the cause of which remain unknown. They exist in at least two different areas in Thurston County, Washington, and similar phenomena exist in various locations around the world.Made/Created
