Description

Halloween, 1972. These eight black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show people wearing Halloween costumes. Image 3a shows a child wearing a turban and a robe and holding a toy monkey. Image 4a shows a child dressed as a clown. Image 5a shows a child dressed as a wrapped present. Image 7a shows a person dressed as a clock. Image 8a shows both the person dressed as a clock and the child dressed as a present. Image 9a shows two children dressed as angels and one dressed as a devil. Image 10a is too underexposed to make out. Image 11a shows the child dressed as the devil and two children dressed as Raggedy Ann and Andy. Image 12a shows three children: one dressed as a clown, one dressed as a vampire and one dressed as a pirate. Image 13a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 14a shows a child dressed as Superman, but also wearing a mask. Image 15a is blank. Image 16a shows the child dressed as Superman. Image 17a shows a child in a mask, a child in a gown, and a child in a coat and floral-print dress. Image 18a shows a child dressed in a cape and mask play wrestling with a child dresses as an old man. Image 19a shows the child in the cape and mask pointing a wand at a kneeling child dressed as a cowboy. Image 20a shows a child dressed in an unknown costume standing face-to-face with a child dressed as a cowboy. The images in group "b" show people dressed in Halloween costumes. Images 5b through 10b show two people dressed as Raggedy Ann and Andy. Image 11b shows a child dressed in a mask and a t-shirt which reads "THE BAT" on the front. Image 12b shows a child dressed as a witch. Image 13b shows several children in costumes reaching into a large bag. Image 14b shows several children dressed in various masks. Image 15b shows two children in masks. Image 16b shows a child in a mask. Image 17b shows a woman or child in a coat with a scarf tied over her hair. Image 18b shows a child dressed as the Flying Nun and a child dressed in an unusual Superman costume. Image 19b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 20b shows a child dressed as a clown wearing a Shakey's hat. Image 21b shows the same child from the previous image. Printed in alternation along one long edge of each of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
