South Sound Center Carnival, 1973. These seven black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show people at the carnival. Image 42a shows children riding a carousel. Image 43a also shows children riding the carousel. Image 44a shows children on a ride in which the seats are made to look like short rocket ships. Image 1a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 2a shows people riding a low-to-the-ground rollercoaster. Image 3a shows people on a carnival ride. A very large, umbrella-like roof is part of the ride. Image 4a shows a man and two little boys waiting to get on a ride. Image 5a shows many people walking through the carnival. Image 6a shows four children riding in a single seat-pod on a carnival ride. Images 7a through 9a are nearly identical to image 6a. Image 10a shows children on the same ride seen in the previous three images, but here the seat/pod they are riding in looks like a rocket or airplane. Image 10a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 11a shows a man holding up a small piece of cotton candy in front of some children. Image 12a shows one child holding cotton candy as another child stands next to them. Image 13a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 14a shows one oy eating some cotton candy. Images 15a and 16a show the same boy eating cotton candy as a smaller boy and a seated man watch. Image only shows the two boys.
Image 24a shows people standing on a platform under a striped roof. They appear to be waiting to get on a ride. Image 25a shows one man moving a chain to allow a second man and a little girl to get on a ride. Image 26a shows two children on a ride. Image 27a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 28a shows many people walking around the carnival.
The images in group "b" show people at the carnival. Image 6b shows a boy playing a rifle-shooting game at the carnival. Image 7b also shows the boy playing the shooting game. Image 8b shows a young man being handed a stuffed animal at a game stall. Images 9b through 11b are effectively identical to image 8b. Images 12b through 15b show three children seated in a round carnival ride seat.
Printed along one long edge of each of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
