Description

South Sound Center Santa & Kids, 1979. These five black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show two women posing with some Christmas decorations and a man dressed as Santa being greeted by a large group of people, mostly children. Images 11 shows two women standing alongside a small table with a Christmas tree-shaped decoration and several Christmas stockings. One woman is to the left of the table, and one is to the right. Some large text is on the wall behind the two women. The top word is "ADULT," but the second one is mostly obscured behind the women and decorations, so it is not readable. Images 12 and 13 are identical to image 11. Image 14 shows a fairly tightly-packed group of standing small children. This is only a smaller section of a larger crowd. Image 15 shows a fairly large group of people, mostly children, standing on a sidewalk outside of one of the entrances to South Sound Center. Image 16 shows a man dressed as Santa Claus holding his arms upward in a greeting gesture. The man is seated in an open carriage. The carriage is piloted by a man dressed as an elf. A portion of the crowd is visible in the background. Image 17 shows a man shaking Santa's hand. Santa is still in the carriage. He is also holding a hand up to one of his ears. Image 18 is very similar to the previous image, but here the other man is no longer shaking Santa's hand. Image 19 is very similar to image 14. Image 20 shows Santa holding on to the arm of someone in a thick coat. Image 21 shows Santa looking and reaching downward amongst a crowd. He appears to be reaching down to pick up a small child who is not visible in the image. Image 22 shows Santa holding a little girl in pigtails and a coat. Image 23 is very similar to the previous image. Printed at intervals along the top edge of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
