Description

Science Fair and Health Fair, Unknown Dates. These five black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show a school science fair. The apparent age of the students and several signs showing grade levels suggest that only elementary school students participated, but the paper awards seen in some of the images read "North Thurston School District No. 3," suggesting that students of all grade levels may have been involved. Image 5a shows three young girls standing at a table with a display concerning Jupiter. Three paper awards are laying on the table in front of the Jupiter display. Image 6a shows eight children standing in a lone and facing generally toward the camera. Several of these children are holding small trophies. These children appear to be standing in front of an audience. Images 7a and 8a shows a girl standing next to an informational display concerning the making of paper. There is one award laying on the table in front of the display. Image 9a shows a girl seated at a table with a display concerning microwave technology on it. There are approximately six other students standing behind her. Image 10a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 11a shows two girls standing behind a table holding a display concerning light. Image 12a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 13a shows a girl standing behind a table with several informational panels concerning tides mounted to it. Image 14a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 15a shows two girls standing behind an informational display concerning hearts. The images in group "b" show people at a health fair. Imae 9b shows a woman and a small child standing in front of someone in a mascot-type costume. Image 10b is very similar to the previous image. Image 11b shows a seated woman getting her blood pressure checked. Image 12b shows shows a different woman getting her blood pressure checked. Imag 13b shows two women seated at an informational station on nutrition. Images 14b through 16b show a little girl holding up a cupcake to a cat's face. The cat is held by a little boy. Image 17b shows a woman holding a baby. The baby has the remnants of a cupcake on their face and hands. The right-hand two-thirds of image 18b is cut off, but the remaining portion of the image shows two women is matching long robes seated at a table holding displayed documents. Printed at intervals along one long edge of each of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
