Description

Scout-O-Rama, 1974. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a large gathering of people taking place inside the Capital Pavilion. The event was titled "Scout-O-Rama." Image 1 shows an elevated shot of people walking around on the basketball court in the Capital Pavilion. There are booths and other items set up in various spots on the floor. Image 2 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 3 is similar to the previous two images, but here there are also people walking around holding flags on poles. Images 4 through 8 are very similar to image 3. Image 9 shows Karen Fraser and several other adults standing at the open back end of a truck or van. Image 10 shows Karen Fraser speaking into a microphone on a stage. Image 11 is very similar to image 10. Image 12 shows a booth with a banner which reads "WILDERNESS SURVIVAL" hanging across the top. Image 13 shows a booth with a flag hanging on the back wall which reads "TROOP 518," "LDS CHURCH" and "LACEY, WASH." Image 14 shows a booth with a banner hanging across the back wall which reads "BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST." Image 15 shows two children demonstrating CPR on a dummy. Image 16 is effectively the same as the previous image. The Scout-O-Rama event took place on 11/23/1974. It was sponsored by the Tumwater Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
