Description

Lacey City Hall and City Council Members, 1979. These twelve black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images of city hall within this sleeve show the Lacey city hall building completed in 1979. That building is now (as of 2019) the Lacey Police Department section of the current city hall building. The images in group "a" show Lacey city employees, Lacey City Council members, a small building, and a backhoe. Image 11a shows two men and one woman standing at a service desk in the city hall. Image 12a is effectively identical to the previous image. Image 13a shows a woman standing behind a desk with a sign on the front which reads "Violations." Image 14a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 15a shows a woman standing behind a service desk with a sign on the front which reads "Payments." Image 16a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 17a shows a woman standing behind a service desk which reads "Utilities." Image 18a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 19a shows two women and a man posing for a photo. The woman on the left is holding what appears to be a frisbee. The man at center is holding a baseball bat. The woman at right is holding a basketball with "LPR" (presumably standing for "Lacey Parks and Recreation") written on it. Images 20a and 21a are nearly identical to image 19a. Image 32a shows a small, single-storey building which may be a temporary city structure. Two cars are parked in front of the building. Images 33a and 34a are nearly identical to image 32a. Image 37a is very similar to images 19a through 21a, but here the woman with the basketball is on the left-hand side of the image, and the other woman no longer appears to be holding a frisbee. Images 38a and 39a are nearly identical to image 37a. Images 40a and 41a show a framed photo of Lacey Civic Plaza. Image 42a shows Bob Williams seated at his desk. One woman and one man are standing on the left-hand side of the image. Images 43a and 44a are nearly identical to image 42a. Image 1a shows a backhoe parked next to a police cruiser. Image 2a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 3a shows the backhoe and police car from a different angle. Image 4a and 5a show a man loosening or tightening a lug nut on a backhoe with an air wrench. Two other men are standing behind this man. The images in group "b" show the Lacey City Hall building, both inside and out, people working at desks, and two signs. Image 12b shows an exterior shot of the Lacey City Hall built in 1979. Images 13b and 14b show service desks inside the city hall. Image 15b shows a man standing and using a large piece of unknown office equipment. Image 16b shows the same man using a desktop piece of unknown office equipment. Image 19b shows a man seated behind a desk and speaking on a telephone. Image 20b shows a woman in a police uniform seated behind a desk. Image 21b shows a different angle on the woman seated at the desk. Image 22b shows two men in police uniforms seated at a single desk. Image 23b is effectively identical to the previous image. These people in police uniforms were photographed inside the Lacey Police Department, then located in the Russell House (as of 2019, the Russell House houses the Lacey Museum). Images 24b and 25b show a sign which reads at the top "NEW CITY HALL FOR THE CITY OF LACEY." Images 26b and 27b show a large sign which reads "LACEY CITY CENTER." The images in group "c" show Lacey City Council members, and two unknown people. Image 26c partially shows Karen Fraser posing for a photo. The top half of the image is cut off. Image 27c shows a full image of Karen Fraser. Images 28c and 29c show Mark Brown. Images 30c and 31c show an unknown woman. Images 32c and 33c show Tom Huntamer. Images 34c and 35c show Archie Knowles. Images 36c and 37c show Bill Bush. Image 38c shows an older man with a partially unbuttoned shirt speaking into a microphone. Images 39c and 40c show Bob Jensen.
