Description

Dail Ashley and Unknown Women, 1979. These three contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show four women working at what is likely the Lacey Leader newspaper offices. One of the women is Dail Ashley. Image 15 shows a woman with long, wavy hair working on a sharply slanted work surface, similar to an easel. I'm appears that she is working on the layout of a newspaper page. Images 16 through 18 are effectively identical to image 15. Image 19 shows a woman with straight, shoulder-length hair seated at a desk and working with a typewriter or a desktop computer. Images 21 through 23 are very similar to image 20. Image 24 shows a woman with shorter hair wearing glasses and a top with a frill at the neck posing for a photo. Image 25 is very similar to image 24. Image 26 shows a woman (Dail Ashley) with shorter, curly hair wearing glasses and a collared shirt. She is seated at a desk. Image 27 is very similar to the previous image, but here it can be seen that Ms. Ashley has several pages of a newspaper in front of her. Some of the columns visible on the pages are crossed out or otherwise annotated. Images 28 through 30 are very similar to image 37.
