Old City Hall (Russell House) Being Moved, 1979. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show preparations for the Russell House (later used as Lacey's city hall, fire department and police department) to be physically moved from its originally location on Pacific Avenue to its current (as of July, 2019) location off of Lacey Street.
Image 20 shows the Russell house resting on very large beams and jacks. A semi truck with a load of what appear to be 4x4's is parked in front of the house. Printed on the passenger door of the semi is "HOUSEMOVING" and "RAINIER MOVERS INC." Image 21 shows man underneath the house adjusting one of the jack platforms the house is resting on. Image 22 shows a man standing next to the chimney of the home. He is holding a long, thin pole and is using it to do something to one of the large beams which the house is resting on. Image 23 shows two men attaching or detaching an object under one of the beams holding up the house. Image 24 two men trying to do something to one of the beams using a very long crowbar. Image 25 shows three men working under the beams. Image 26 shows the passenger side of the semi seen in image 20.Made/Created
