Description

Boss Advertisement, 1979. These nine black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using at least two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they appear to have come. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The title of this sleeve ("Boss Advertisement") seems to refer to the people pictured being owners or in management positions at various local businesses. The images in group "a" show five different men (Bob Bush, Ed Bettine, Tom Morgan, Mike Michel and Bill Walker) and one woman (Dorothea Billy) posing individually for portrait-style photos. Images 4a through 8a show a man (Bob Bush) with feathered hair and a beard wearing a sweater over a collared shirt. Images 10a through 13a show a man (Ed Bettine) wearing a polo shirt with "Bayliner" embroidered on the breast. Images 14a through 17a show a man (Tom Morgan) wearing glasses, a polo shirt, and a nametag which reads "TOM MORGAN" and "MANAGER." Images 18a through 22a shows a woman (Dorothea Billy) wearing glasses and a short-sleeved dress or top with a small plaid pattern on it. Images 30a through 34a show a man (Mike Michel) wearing a suit and diagonally-striped tie. There are trees and a mountain visible in the background. Images 40a through 44a shows a man (Mike Michel) wearing glasses, a jacket and a tie. The images in group "b" show two men posing together for photos, and a man and a woman posing individually for photos. Images 16b through 19b show two young men wearing blazers and standing side-by side. These men may be Chris Smith and Dan Demoulin (respectively the manager and assistant manager of the Mr. Rag's clothing shop), but this is conjecture. Images 27b through 31b show a woman (Donna Morton) wearing a sweater and a pendant necklace. Many spools of yarn are visible in the background. Images 39b through 43b show a man (Dick Salter) wearing a blazer and a diagonally-striped tie. A wall with floral wallpaper and wainscoting are visible in the background.
