North Thurston High School Football, 1973. These eight black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show portrait-style photos of North Thurston High School football players and coaches, and action photos of the players. Image 5a shows a portrait-style shot of a young man (likely Lynn Miller) with curly hair wearing a football jersey. The name "MILLER" is visible on the upper chest of the jersey. Images 6a and 7a show the young man crouching down in a two-point football stance. Images 8a and 9a show portrait-style photo of a young man with fairly long, wavy hair wearing a football jersey. The number 85 is on the front of the jersey, but there is no name visible. Images 10a and 11a show the young man crouching slightly in a two-point football stance. Image 12a shows the young man having just kicked a football. The football is hanging in the air between the young man and the camera. Images 13a and 14a shows portrait style shot of a young man (Steve Fisher) with wavy hair wearing a football jersey with the name "FISHER" on the chest. Image 15a shows a young man holding a football out in front of his face with his arms almost fully extended. He is facing toward the right-hand side of the image. Images 16a and 17a show the same young man holding his hands up as if waiting to catch a football. Images 18a and 19a show portrait-style shots of a man (Coach Jim Fouts) wearing a baseball-style cap and windbreaker. Images 20a and 21a show portrait-style shots of a man wearing a t-shirt. Images 22a and 23a show a man wearing glasses and a jacket with "North Thurston" printed on the left breast.
The images in group "b" show North Thurston High School football players posed for portrait-style photos and action shots. Images 17b and 18b show a portrait-style shot of a young man (Pat Hayes) with fairly long, slightly wavy hair wearing a football jersey with "HAYES" printed on the front. Images 19b and 20b show a fairly close-up shot of the same young man's face, as he is down in a football stance. Image 21b shows a wider shot of the young man down in a four-point football stance. Images 22b and 23b show a portrait-style shot of a young man with fairly long, straight hair wearing a football jersey. Image 24b shows this young man down in a offensive center's football stance while holding a football in both hands. Images 25b and 26b show portrait-style photos of a young man (Dave Kirk) with curly hair wearing a football jersey with "KIRK" printed on the front. Image 27b shows the same young man kneeling on one knee with a football helmet on the ground in front of him.
