Track and Field, 1975-1978. These sixteen black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using six separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
The images in group "a" show a track meet between North Thurston and Tumwater high schools. These images were captured on or around 3-24-1978. Images 22a and 23a each show a person participating in pole vault. Image 24a is blank. Images 25a through 29a show people running in a hurdles race. The runners are progressively closer to the camera in each image. Image 30a shows appears to show a cloudy sky. Image 31a shows someone participating in a long jump competition. Images 32a through 38a show people running in hurdles races. Images 39a and 40a show people participating in long jump. Images 41a and 42a show people throwing a shotput. Image 43a shows someone participating in the long jump. Images 44a and 1a-2a show people running a race.
The images in group "b" show a middle school track meet which took place on or around 5-28-1975. Image 2b shows four young people sitting in the grass and laughing. Image 3b shows several young women running in a hurdles race. Image 4b shows a young person participating in a pole vault competition. Image 5b shows several people participating in a hurdles race. Image 6b shows someone participating in a pole vault competition. Images 7b and 8b shows young women running in a race. Image 9b shows someone participating in the long jump. Image 10b shows some people just beginning a race. Image 11b shows a runner approaching the finish line in a race. Image 12b shows people running in a race. Image 13b shows a person's forearm. Image 14b shows several people sitting or standing alongside the track. Image 15b shows a young person running. Image 16b shows a crowd of people sitting in some stands. Image 17b shows several young people running. Image 18b shows some people standing on the track. Image 19b shows someone participating in the long jump. Image 20b shows several people running a race. Image 21b shows some grass.
The images in group "c" show the same middle school track meet as seen in group "b." Images 18c and 19c show people participating in the pole vault. Images 20c and 21c show runners crossing the finish line.
The images in group "d" show a North Thurston High School track meet. These images were captured on or around 4-16-1975. Image 39d shows someone polevaulting. Image 40d shows a young man's face. Image 41d shows a runner down in a starting stance. Images 42d and 43d show runners finishing a race. Image 44d shows people jumping hurdles. Images 1d-3d show people throwing shotputs. Image 4d shows someone throwing a discus.
The images in group "e" show the same track meet seen in group "d." Images 34e through 38e show people throwing shotput. Images 39e and 40e show a young women posing for photos. Image 41e shows a young man running on the track. Images 42e through 44e show four young men in North Thurston High School track suits kneeling and posing for group photos.
The images in group "f" show a track meet. These images were captured on or around 6-4-1975. Image 41f shows two people walking on the track. Images 42f through 44f show a young man throwing a javelin. Image 1f shows a person running on the track.Made/Created
