Description

There are 2 distinct groupings of contact print strips here with 5 strips in total. Group a (Frame 8-11) shows four photos of a young boy holding a toy model of a hot air balloon. Group b (Frame 28-29 29-30 30-35 37-41) are images of several gas and service stations during the gas shortage of 1973 and 1974. The gas shortage photos were taken after September of 1973 because OPEC started their oil embargo in October of 1973. Only after the embargo did the gas crisis happen. Frame 28-29 show to nearly identical photos of a sign at a gasoline filling station reading" NO GAS PHASE 4". From the brand on the gas pumps it shows that it is an ARCO station. Frame 29b center frame is a "Maverik" branded gas station with a line of cars waiting for gas. The Price for regular gas is priced at 3.79 a gallon and the price of premium gas is 4.19 a gallon. Frame 30b is the same as frame 29b but shot at a different angle. 30c shows a man in the foreground grasping a tire at the top of a stack of tires. He is wearing glasses and a button-up shirt with a pocket protector in his breast pocket. Behind him are long racks of tires, 3 tires tall. Frame 31c is shot at the same place and angle as frame 30c but the man is holding the tire in front of him and smiling. Frame 32c and 33c are almost identical photos shot from the same angle as 30c but in a landscape orientation rather than a portrait orientation. The man has his hand behind the stack of tires in front of him and is smiling. Frame 34c-35c are close-ups of the man's face with 2 different smiles. Frame 37 a sign in the foreground reading "NO GAS TODAY REPAIR ONLY" In the background of the image is a mechanic's garage with a "Gulf" sign. There are two cars on lifts and a man standing in the garage. Frame 38 is similar to Frame 37 but at a slightly different angle, bringing the gas station's pumps into view. Frame 38 and 39 are almost identical images and are similar to Frame 37 but they show a slightly better view of the gas pumps. Frame 41 is a poorly focused shot of only part of the sign described in frame 37. Film used: Kodak Tri X Pan "safety film"
