Description

These photos were taken for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These three contact print strips depict 2 people dressed as 5th century combatants, sparring with wooden swords/shields and chainmail armor, in Heritage Park, Olympia, WA. Comatant-1 (C1) is wearing an oval shaped helmet and Combatant-2 (C2) is wearing a truncated cone shaped helmet. Frame 17 C2 is standing alone, center frame with a tree behind him to the left and a street light behind his right. Frame 18 C1 and C2 are in center-frame left and right respectively. They both have their wooden swords raised behind their heads. The Capitol Center is visible in the background. Frame 19 is almost identical to frame 18 but it is shot from a lower angle, and the Capitol Center building is more visible. Frame 20 both combatants are kneeling in the grass. C1 is in the left of the frame and C2 is on the right. They both have their swords raised. Capitol Lake is visible in the background. Frame 21 is almost identical to Frame 20 but C1 has his sword raised further back behind his head. Frame 22 is identical to frame 21 but zoomed slightly out. Frame 23 C2 is kneeling defensively behind his shield (foreground left) while C1 kneels over him with sword raised behind him (foreground right). Frame 24 is similar to Frame 23 but C1 is striking C2 with his wooden sword. Frame 25 C1 is alone, center frame, kneeling in the foreground, with sword raised behind his head. Frame 26 C2 is kneeling on one knee center frame, his shield raised, and sword outstretched to the left of the frame. Parked cars are visible in the background. Frame 27 C1 is kneeling in the foreground and taking up nearly the entire frame (close-up). His sword is raised behind his head and shield to his side. Frame 28 C2 (midground, left) is nearly obscured by C1 (midground, right). They are both kneeling C2 has his sword pointing in front of him and C2 has his shield raised with his sword pointing behind him. Frame 30 is cut diagonally omitting the left third of the frame. C1 and C2 are kneeling and the ground, midground right and left respectively. C2 has his shield raised above his head and is looking downward. C2 is blocking a blow from C1s sword. Frame 31 is similar to frame 30 but both combatants are holding their swords back, ready to strike. Frame 32 both combatants are in the foreground, kneeling. C1 has his back turned to the camera (foreground left) C2 has his facing the camera, with his sword held horizontally in front of his shield. C2 has his sword raised behind his head. Frame 33 is similar to frame 32 but it is slightly zoomed out and C2 has his sword raised behind him.
