Description

These 8 negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader Newspaper. The people shown in these images were all residents and council people of the Panorama City Retirement Community. There seem to have been 4 rolls of film used to make these photos, so repeat numbers will be given a frame number suffix of a, b, c, or d. All of these photos have a plain white background. Some of the photos have a corner of a wall visible in them or the side of a door. Frame 44a, a close-up of a balding man wearing horn-rimmed glasses, a dark jacket, broad black bowtie, and a white undershirt. He is smiling with an understated grin and looking toward the left of the frame. Frame 1a, is nearly identical to frame 44a but the same man is instead looking to the right of the frame. Frame 2a, an elderly woman with gray and white wavy hair, metallic cat eye glasses, a dark polka dot jacket with large white polka dot collar, and a circular pendant necklace is looking to the left of the frame with an understated smile. The smile is almost a slight frown. Frame 3a, the same woman from frame 2a is now seen facing more towards the right of the frame, looking directly at the camera, and smiling wide. Frame 4a, an elderly man (center-frame) with receding hairline, large ears, long nose, pursed lips (two front teeth visible), tightly patterned suit jacket, striped collared undershirt, wavy patterned multi-colored tie, and a small pin on his lapel is looking and facing toward the left of the frame. There is a glare against his glasses. Frame 5a, the same man from frame 4a is facing the camera and smiling wide, his mouth open slightly, showing white teeth. Frame 6a, (center frame) an elderly man with white receding hair, bushy sideburns, dark suit jacket, narrow black bowtie, dark horn-rimmed glasses is facing and looking toward the left of the frame. He has very thin lips and his smile is flat and narrow, his lips only slightly agape. Frame 7a, the same man from the previous frame is standing facing slightly right of the front of the frame and is looking/smiling slightly right of the camera. Frame 8a, an elderly woman with tall voluminous graying hair, narrow/dark eyebrows, bulbous nose, light colored coat, dark turtleneck, and chain necklace is facing towards the left of the frame. She seems to be squinting and is smiling slightly, showing white teeth. Frame 9a, the same woman from frame 8a is now facing slightly right while looking off into the distance. Frame 10a, (center frame) an elderly woman with an understated beehive hairdo, thick rimmed exaggerated cat eye glasses, light colored quilted jacket, and long pearl necklace doubled around her neck is facing toward the left of the frame. She is smiling with her mouth closed and looking into the distance. Frame 11a, the same woman from frame 10 is now looking toward the right of the frame instead of the left, looking into the distance. She is now smiling with her teeth showing. Frame 12a, an elderly woman with a tall beehive hairdo, pendulous earrings, stylized plaid jacket, white turtleneck, and long chain necklace is smiling and looking toward the left of the frame. Her smile is wide, showing her white teeth. Frame 13a, the same woman from frame 12 is looking toward the right of the frame. Frame 14a, a completely bald and elderly man wearing a dark suit and tie with a plain white collared shirt and browline glasses is looking toward the left of the frame with a thoughtful look. He has a long/wide chin and a thin lipped grin. Frame 15a, the man from frame 14a is now looking toward the right of the frame with a similar smile that seems more pleased than thoughtful. Frame 4b, a balding man with slicked-back dark hair, dark horn-rimmed glasses, glen-plaid suit-jacket, corduroy tie, tie chain and white undershirt is smiling and looking toward the right of the frame. A mechanical door closer can be seen in the background. Frame 5b, the man from frame 4b is now looking toward the left of the frame and smiling only slightly with his mouth showing a glimpse of his teeth. Frame 14b, a middle-aged man is wearing a light colored polo shirt with thin/dark stripes on the trim and wire frame aviator glasses. His hair is unkempt and he has prominent sideburns. He is smiling by frowning and is looking off into the distance toward the left of the frame. Frame 15b, featured is the man from frame 14b but facing toward the right of the frame and smiling more broadly and looking more cheery, less stern. Frame 10c, a close-up shot of Ken Balsley's face, he has shaggy dark hair, a Van Dyke style beard and horn-rimmed glasses. He is looking directly into the lens of the camera. Frame 11c & 12c are nearly identical shots of a woman facing the right of the frame. She is wearing a plaid broad-collared jacket with no undershirt. Her hair is gray, tall, and swept to the left. She is smiling slightly in frame 11c and is neutral faced in frame 12c. She is wearing a small pearl earring in her right ear. Frame 13c & 14c are nearly identical photos of the woman in frame 11c & 12c facing the left of the photo. She is facing the left of the frame in profile. She has a very understated grin in the photo. Frame 1c,44c, and 43c are all nearly identical photos of a thin woman with a dark bouffant hairdo with straight bangs. She is looking directly at the camera, wearing a conservative sweater, and smiling a toothy smile. She has thick/dark sculpted eyebrows. Frame 42 is similar to the last three images but the same woman is seen in the frame with just a very slight smile and her eyes are wider, looking out of the corner of her eye at the photographer. The next 5 frames are very dark, even in the sprocket-hole margins which should be clear and the frame numbers are illegible. The only number that could be made out is the lowest numbered frame (39?) but is too hard to make out to be sure of the number. To assign the frames numbers I will start with the lowest numbered frame numbered 39d and progress across the strip to 40d, 41d, 42d, and finally 43d. Frame 39d, an elderly woman with cat eye browline glasses is looking at the right of the frame. She is wearing a dark colored conservative sweater and a long chain link necklace. She is smiling so that only the top row of her teeth is showing. Frame 40d, a different elderly woman with very similar glasses to the woman in frame 39d is wearing a dark colored sweater, metallic earrings, and a handkerchief tied around her neck. She is smiling a wide/joyous looking smile. Frame 41d the woman from the previous frame is now facing the right of the frame and smiling less wide, with almost a look of admiration. Frame 42d a slender, elderly, tall-faced man is facing the left of the frame. He is wearing wire framed aviator glasses, a dark bowtie and dark suit jacket. His undershirt is white and there is considerable glare coming off of his glasses. He is smiling slightly. Frame 43d is similar to frame 42d but the man is facing right instead of left and is slightly closer-in to the subject. Film Used: Kodak Tri X PAN Film
