Compiled to be the first book in reading for rural schools, while meeting the needs of city schools as well. This book contains songs, nursery rhymes, child verse, child lore, and cumulative stories accompanied by color illustrations by Ruth Mary Hallock. There are 130 pages of reading material. Pages 131 to 144 include sample cursive letters, suggestions to teachers, consonant sounds and phonographs, phonetic words arranged in groups, sight words, word list, and two pieces of music.
On the first blank page opposite the front cover handwritten in pencil is the name Harry, written in all caps in a child's handwriting. In the top right corner of the same page is a stamp in blue ink in the outline of a shield are the words, "Wolfe Book Store No _________ Lawrence, Kas." and handwritten in black on the line is "14".
7.5" x 5.5" x 0.5". Brown, hard-backed cover. At the top of the front cover, impressed with dark brown ink is "The Kansas Primer". The rest of the front cover is illustrated with sunflower stalks and one flower. The stalks are green and the flower has yellow petals and a brown center. The spine has the words "Kansas Readers - Primer" impressed in dark brown ink. The back cover has no decoration.Lexicon
