Description

A compilation of simple folk tales to "utilize the child's love for stories and make an easy road to reading." This book contains 9 stories on 112 pages with color illustrations by Frederick Richardson. Pages 114 to 120 include the alphabet, a word list, and suggestions. On the first blank page, opposite the front cover handwritten in pencil is "9/3 - 1917 Harry Augney", then below that in darker pencil "Harry" is written again. 7.5" x 6" x 0.5". Hard-backed brown cover. At the top of the front cover in yellow ink outlined in brown ink is written "Reading-Literature". Just below that is a strip of creatures associated with the reading material inside done in negative space with the brown ink background outlining creatures. In the middle is the title "The Primer" above "Free and Treadwell" in the yellow bordered in brown, then just below that in brown is "Retail Price 30 Cents." Below the words is another illustrative strip of creatures in the same negative pace style as the strip above. At the bottom of the cover in yellow bordered in brown is "Row, Peterson & Co." The spine has "Reading Literature - Primer" printed in brown ink. The back cover has only a crest printed in the middle, depicting an open book with possibly an arrow pointing down through it and scroll work below and to the sides of the book.
