Part of The Bedtime Story-Books collection by Thornton W. Burgess, "The Adventures of Prickly Porky" was first published in 1916 by the publishers Little, Brown and Company. This copy published in 1944 by the publishers Grosset & Dunlap and illustrated by Harrison Cady is 192 pages long divided into 23 chapters with 14 black and white illustrations.
Inside the front cover in the top right corner stamped in black ink is, "Lacey Elementary School Library North Thurston School Dist. #3 Lacey, Washington" although "Lacey School Elementary Library" is only partially stamped. On the page opposite the front cover near the top and slightly off-center to the left stamped in a blue-black ink is"Lacey Elementary School Library North Thurston School Dist. #3 Lacey, Washington", and it appears as though someone may have tried to stamp it twice. On the page after the frontispieces under the title in faded black ink is stamped "Lacey Elementary School Library North Thurston School Dist. #3 Lacey, Washington". On the title page at the bottom slightly off-center to the right in black ink is stamped "Lacey Elementary School Library North Thurston School Dist. #3 Lacey, Washington", near the bottom left of the page running parallel to the spine crease a white strip of paper has been adhered, on the paper is printed in black ink "7414". On page 19 in the top right corner stamped in black ink is"Lacey School", and on page 51 in the bottom right corner stamped in black ink is "Lacey Elementary School Library North Thurston School Dist. #3 Lacey, Washington". On page 192 at the bottom between the illustration and the page number is stamped in blue ink "1274 1126 27" and just below it written in pencil "70". On the page opposite the back cover a manilla colored card sleeve has been adhered and a white card adhered to the sleeve. At the top of the sleeve stamped in black ink is "Lacey Elementary School Library North Thurston School Dist. #3 Lacey, Washington", although "Elementary School Library" is only partially stamped. On the face of the sleeve pocket is typed in black ink "703" above "Burgess Adventures of Prickly Porky" and to the right of that, "F" over "Bu", underneath all of that is stamped in black ink "Lacey Elementary School Library North Thurston School Dist. #3 Lacey, Washington", at the top right corner of the sleeve pocket is stamped in green ink "Nov 26 '75". The card has been printed with a black grid and "Due Date" at the top. The card has been stamped with dates ranging from "Jan 14 '85" to "Sep 17 '88" in ink colors black, purple, turquoise, and red. Over the dates written in pencil are the numbers 11, 10, 9, 7, 19, and 16. On the inside of the back cover in the top right corner is stamped in faded black ink "Lacey Elementary School Library North Thurston School Dist. #3 Lacey, Washington".
Measuring 7.25" x 4.75" x 1" the book is bound in a bright green cover and spine.
On the front cover centered at the top stamped in black ink is "The Adventures of Prickly Porky" in the center of the cover in black and a light shade of green ink is stamped a picture of two animals wearing human style pants sitting on a grassy bank with a log between them and a tree in the back ground. Below the picture stamped in black ink is "Thornton W. Burgess".
On the spine at the top stamped in black ink running perpendicular to the length of the spine is "The Adventures of Prickly Porky" below that in black and a light shade of green ink is stamped the image of a porcupine from the front legs up. Below that is stamped in black ink "Burgess" However the last S has been obscured by a black streak. At the bottom of the spine in a white ink is written "F" over "Bu".
