Description

A single photo, taken from across the street (to the SW) showing the Olympic Theatre and other businesses in downtown Olympia. The Olympic's announcement board shows that it is hosting a premiere performance of "Eliza and the Lumberjack" (a play named as the official Washington Territorial Centennial production); that premiere was held on May 14, 1953 and there is a line of people buying tickets. To the east of the theater one can see signs for the McMillan Sewing Machine Co., Capital City Title Co., the Chevron Gas Station, Dwight Jordan and the Olympic Grill cafe.

Context

The Olympic Theatre and surrounding businesses were Thurston County businesses in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The play being performed was a the official Washington Territorial Centennial production.
