Description

One photo of the old Thurston County Courthouse (built in 1891 and converted to being the Old State Capitol Building from 1905 until 1928). The picture shows the original clock tower that was destroyed in a fire on September 8, 1928. In the foreground it also shows the old band stand in Sylvester Park, which was demolished earlier that summer.

Context

This building initially served as the Thurston County Courthouse, when built in 1871. It was the State Capitol Building from 1905 until 1928, when it was replaced by the current state capitol building. It currently serves as the primary office for the state superintendent of public schools.
