Black and white photograph of Stearman airplane with a J-5 Wright Whirlwind 200 HP engine. The plane belonged to G. Dewey Martin, who was the first student of Cram's Flying Service learning to fly this aircraft. He practiced his landings at the Olympia Airport, but learned to fly out of Tacoma since Olympia did not have any hangars at that time (first hangar built in 1934).
This appears to be the same plane as in 2000-002-0008, but later.Made/Created

J-5 Wright Whirlwind 200 HP Stearman purchased by G. D. Martin from Wallace Air Service Spokane Wn. Dewey was Crams 1st student learning to fly this aircraft in Tacoma and using Olympia Airport to practice landings as Olympia had no hangars at that time. He & Cram would fly cross-country until Cram built 1st Hangar 1934. Later Herb Buroker a partner with Gwin Hicks of Buroker Hicks Flying Service designed built and installed the canopy over Deweys cockpit. Picture from G. D. Martin collection.
