Description

A black, Sterling brand bicycle.

Context

Nineteenth century bicycle company, Sterling, was known for its impressive craftsmanship and the catchy slogan, "Built like a watch." The donor of this bike, Mary Zindt, lived to be 104 years old. Her impressive 33-year career with the U.S. government led to stints living in Japan, Pakistan, and Italy, along with more adventures across Europe and the Middle East. Zindt, who was also an avid hiker, climbed Mount St. Helens in 1950s, and Mount Fuji and Mount Shirouma while working at the Tokyo Army Hospital in Japan.
