An English dictionary written and published by Noah Webster it contains etymologies, orthography, pronunciation and definitions with illustrations if they are doubtful or obscure of thousands of words. With an introductory dissertation on the origin, history and connection of the languages of western Asia and Europe, with an explanation of the principles on which languages are formed. Covering A-IVY in 938 pages there is a picture of Noah Webster opposite the title page. On the first, blank page in black ink is a handwritten note: "Paul M. Wood from his father David Wood" then below that "Detroit Apr. 2nd 1848". 7.5" x 11" x 3.5" hard cover leather bound book. Green leather wrapping over a brown leather cover and spine. There is no title or decoration on the covers or spine. Very worn and discolored
