Description

Becky and David Chamberlain playing steam shovel beside their house in about 1961. Color scanned image taken from a slide. The photograph, taken by Robert Chamberlain, was taken facing east from the side yard looking at the garage of 1720 Cedar (now Gemini). It shows the kids playing in the dirt with a plywood contruction machine their dad built which included a rope pulley that actually worked the shovel. Becky's back, in a red jacket, is facing the camera while she is busy doing something in the dirt. David, sits inside the steam shovel controlling the rig. He is wearing a red coat and a knit hat. Donor David Chamberlain notes that later a lawn was put in to this side yard. Since the Chamberlain family moved out of this house, the garage has been converted to a room inside the house and a carport added to the side, as is typical of houses in the neighborhood and of this era in general.
