Description

Frank and Lilly Russell at the Thurston County Fair, 1913. Black and white 8" x 10" photographic copy print, probably made from a negative. Picture is a two horse team pulling a passenger buggy. The horses are dark colored with a bit of white on the forehead. Each horse has one ankle that is white. Frank Russell is seated at left and is holding the reins. He is dressed in a dark suit, light colored shirt and a brimmed straw hat with a wide white band. Lilly is wearing a heavy dark colored winter coat and a rounded hat with a brim. There is a carriage robe over their laps. Directly behind them is a utilitarian building with a steeply pitched roof decorated with a string of varied flags or pennants. There is a banner across the front of the building which is difficult to read because of the angle. One word that can be discerned is "Piano." There is a striped tent visible in the background at right and three men in front of it. Written on the back in pen: "1996-001 neg #1799" and in another hand and pen: "Frank & Lilly Russell."
