Description

John Mangham and Lacey Lions Club, unknown date. Black and white negative strip of five images originally created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. All five frames are head shots of men in the Lions Club. Behind the men in each photograph is a banner or flag that reads "Lions Club" with the logo under that. According to Ken Balsley (see interview 10/14/2016), John Mangham was instrumental in the founding of the Lacey Museum. Mr. Mangham was a member of the Sunrise Lion's Club, and also worked through a group called the Lacey Civic Committee, which was a cooperative effort of local Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions Clubs, as well as the Lacey Chamber of Commerce. Through the Lacey Civic Committee, Mr. Mangham played a large role in forming and supervising a group of young people in a program to help them learn an occupational trade. It was the young people in this program who did most of the physical work in the renovation of the building which became the Lacey Museum. Mr. Balsley also estimated that Mr. Mangham spent $10,000 of his own money toward the renovation of the museum building.
