Description

Bulldis Oyster Farm, 1973. These three black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. One strip bears six images (images 9-14), one bears five images (images 4-8) and one strip bears three images (images 1-3). These images show various aspects of the work involved at an oyster farm and processing facility. They also feature Sam Bulldis, Jim Bulldis, LaRene Williams, an unidentified woman and an unidentified man. Sam Bulldis was the owner of the National Fish and Oyster Company, located off of Meridian Road on the Nisqually Reach. He started out in the oyster industry in 1921. In 1936, he founded the National Fish and Oyster Company with his son, Jim Bulldis. By the time these images were captured, Sam Bulldis owned the company and Jim Bulldis managed it. LaRene Williams was an employee of the company. (Lacey Leader, 1/24/1973, pg. 7)
