Description

Tyee Fire, unknown date. This single black and white film negative strip bearing four images (images 15-18) was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. The images show a fire fighter and a woman in a Lacey Police uniform working at a desk. Image 15 shows a firefighter with a large "T" on the back of his jacket climbing a ladder onto the top of a building. There is an automobile in the foreground. Image 16 shows a firefighter with a "T" on the back of his jacket chopping at a bathroom wall with an axe. Image 17 shows a woman working at a desk. She is leaning over with her head very close to the top of the desk, and most of her head is obscured by a large number of file folders on the desk. A Lacey Police badge is visible on her left shoulder. Image 18 shows a similar scene, but the woman is facing away from the camera. The Tyee Motor Inn was a popular event and banquet venue in Tumwater, Washington. It was located in what is, as of October 2016, the location of the Tumwater Costco. It was built in 1958, originally with only 39 units, but quickly expanded to become a 209-unit luxury hotel. It was very popular among legislators, many of whom stayed there while in session. The majority of the hotel burned down in January of 1970, but it was later rebuilt. Printed along one edge of this film negative strip is "KODAK SAFETY FILM."
