Tugboat race, unknown date. These two black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. One of these strips holds five images (images 43-3) and one strip holds two images (images 41-42). These images show tugboats racing at Budd Inlet. Image 41 shows Budd Inlet with a number of different types of boats sailing on it in the distance. There are trees in the further distance. Image 42 shows a similar scene, but in the middleground is a piling sticking up out of the water with a sign attached to it. The sign is facing away from the camera. Image 43 shows a similar scene to that of image 42, but the photographer has either zoomed in closer to the piling or physcially moved closer to it. Image 44 shows approximately ten tugboats participating in a race. The boat in the lead is called "ODIN" according to the name painted on its side. Image 1 shows the same race, but the image frame is pitched down, causing the water to fill more of the image. The Odin is further to the left in this image than in the previous. Image 2 shows the Odin further to the left and closer to the camera than in image 1. Image 3 shows the Odin again closer and further toward the left of the image frame.
This tugboat race is part of an annual tugboat race and festival which began in the early 1970s and became known as Olympia Harbor Days.
Printed in alternation along the bottom edges of these two film strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
