Description

Basketball, 1-5 and 1-26, 1977. These twelve black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. At least four separate film rolls were used in the creation of the images in this sleeve, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from, and each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter along with their physical number (ex: 17a, 17b, 17c, 17d). Additionally, all of the physical numbers have been cut off of these contact print strips, so they will be referenced by the number of their corresponding film negative strip. The images in group "a" show a boy's basketball game. One of the teams playing are the North Thurston Rams, but the second team has no school name on their jersey. However, the second team maybe be the Shelton Highclimbers based on a sign hanging in the gymnasium which reads "Shelton will be meltin' when the Rams get [last word unreadable]." Based on the date written on the back of these film negatives' corresponding contact prints, these images were captured on 1-5-1977. Image 1a shows several players for both teams going up for a rebound. Player number 51 for the second team is closest to and facing away from the camera. Image 2a shows a player for the Rams with a jersey number ending in "2" having just released a jump shot. Player number 12 for the Rams is at the right side of the frame, and player 13 for the second team is at the left. Image 4a shows player 52 for the Rams about to take a shot. Player 12 for the Rams is at the left side of the image in the background. Image 5a shows player 30 for the Rams taking a jump shot.
