Description

Area businesses, unknown dates. These eleven black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These strips mostly appear to be from separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, each strip will be treated as its own group, and each group will be assigned a lower case letter to accompany its physical number when identifying each image (ex: 17a, 17b, 17c, etc.). The strip designated as "a" shows a man holding a pan of sticky buns in a bakery. Image 43a shows the man holding the pan of sticky buns and looking toward the camera. Images 44a-2a are nearly identical. Image 3a is very similar to the previous four images, but here the man is looking down at the sticky buns, The strip designated as "b" shows two women standing in a clothing store. All five of the images on this strip are nearly identical, but image 3b is oriented vertically, while 1b-2b and 4b-5b are oriented horizontally. The strip designated as "c" shows one young man and one older man posing in an electronics or automotive supply store. Centered in the image is a display of car stereos. Image 2c shows the two men looking at eachother and smiling. Image 3c shows the younger man smiling and looking at the camera while the older man smiles and looks toward the left edge of the image. Image 4c shows both men smiling, but the younger man is looking toward the right edge of the image, and the older man is looking toward the camera. Image 5c shows both men smiling and looking toward eachother. Image 6c shows both men looking toward the camera, but the older man is smiling and the younger man is not. The strip designated as "d" shows a man and a woman in a shoe repair workshop and a man in a power tool store or rental shop which may be Lew Rents. Image 4d shows a man and a woman in a shoe repair workshop. The woman is standing and the man is seated at a large shoe repair machine. Both are looking at the camera, and the man is smiling slightly. Image 5d is very similar to the prvious image, but the man has a larger smile on his face, and the woman is smiling slightly. Image 6d shows a man with glasses and a mustache posing near a shelf with circular saws, reciprocating saws, and other similar tools. Image 7d shows a very similar scene, but the man has a larger smile on his face and a man in the background is waving toward the camera. Image 8d is nearly identical to images 7d, but the man in the background is not waving. The strip designated as "e" shows a man posing in what appears to be a signmaking shop. Image 5e shows the man standing in the shop with nothing in his hands. Image 6e shows the man with a fire extinguisher in his left hand. Images 7e and 8e are virtually identical to image 6e. The strip designated as "f" shows a woman holding a dog. On the wall behind the woman and dog is a shelf with many trophies on it. These images may show a dog training business. Image 8f shows the woman and dog looking toward the camera. Image 9f shows the dog looking toward the left side of the image frame. Image 10f is very similar to image 9f, but the dog is leaning forward more. The strip designated as "g" shows one woman seated at desk and two other womn standing behind her. Behind the women are many rolls of fiberglass insulation. Image 15g shows none of the women smiling. Image 16g shows all of the women smiling. Image 17g shows the women with bigger smiles that image 16g. Image 18g is nearly identical to image 17g. The strip designated as "h" shows a man standing in front of a pegboard with many fire extinguishers hanging on it. Image 18h shows the man standing in front of the fire extinguishers. Image 19h is very similar to image 18h. The strip designated as "i" shows a man with glasses and a striped shirt in a skate shop with both skateboards and rollerskates on display. Image 23i shows the man working on a pair of roller skates. His right hand is underneath the skate and he is looking downward. Image 24i shows the man using a screwdriver on the skate. Image 25i shows the man holding the skate on its side and touching one of the back wheels. Image 26i shows the man looking toward the camera. The skate is on the man's workbench. Image 27i shows the man stretching a measuring tape across a skateboard. Image 28i shows the man holding up a measuring tape to the front end of a skateboard. Image 29i shows the man holding the measuring tape further toward the back end of the skateboard. Image 30i shows the man with his face turned away from the camera. The strip designated as "j" shows a woman seated in a barber's chair and a man standing behind her, likely the barber. They are in a barber's shop or hair salon. Image 36j shows neither of the two people smiling. Image 37j shows the woman smiling slightly. Image 38j shows the woman with a large smile. Image 39j shows the woman with a large smile and the man with a slight smirk. Printed at intervals along one edge of all of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
