Description

Area scenic shots, unknown dates. These nine black and white film negatives were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. As many as eight different rolls of film were used in the creation of these images, so many of the physical number on the strips are repeated one or more times. For the purposes of this description, each strip (except the first two, which are from the same film roll) will be assigned a lower case letter to go along with its physical number (ex: 17a, 17b, 17c, etc.) to make differentiating between images with the same physical numbers easier. The two strips designated as group "a" shows three women seated at a table, pictures of trees, and pictures of a body of water with pilings sticking up out of it. Image 1a shows three women seated at a table. One seems to be looking through or reading a book, one seems to be taking notes, and one is just laughing. These three women may be leading a meeting. Image 2a shows a dirt road through a forest with power lines overhead. Image 3a shows a tree with many tangled branches. Image 4a shows a forest with a dirt road at the bottom of the frame. There is a small coniferous tree at the center of the image. Image 5a shows the branches of several coniferous trees. Image 6a shows a body of water with a line of pilings receding into the distance. There is forested land in the distance. The piling nearest to the camera is roughly centered in the image, and the image is oriented vertically. Image 7a is similar to image 6a, but it is oriented horizontally. Image 8a is similar to the previous two images but the photographer has stepped to their right several feet. The image is oriented horizontally. Image 9a is very similar to image 8a, but it is oriented vertically. Image 10a shows an almost identical image to that of image 8a. The images in group "b" show a lake or river with a sign and driftwood on its banks. Image 3b shows the body of water with a sign in the left foreground which reads "No trespassing, treated water." Image 4b shows the body of water with a cut piece of a tree laying on the bank. The image is oriented horizontally. Image 5b is very similar to image 4b, but the image is oriented vertically. The images in group "c" show a child and two horses. Image 6c shows a child in a coat with a hood holding a snowball. Image 7c shows two horses behind a fence. One of the horses is looking toward the camera while the second horse looks toward the right side of the image frame. Image 8c shows one of the horses close-up. The second horse is partially visible at the right-hand side of the image. Image 9c shows both of the horses, and neither is looking toward the camera. The images in group "d" show a body of water with a rocky outcropping sticking out of the water. Image 11d shows the outcropping. The image is oriented vertically. Image 12d is similar to image 11d, but the image is oriented horizontally. Image 13d is virtually identical to image 12d. Image 14d is similar to images 12d and 13d, but the photographer has moved closer to the outcropping. Image 15d shows a part of the body of water without the outcropping. The images in group "e" show exterior shots of the Thurston County Courthouse and the parking lot in front of it. Images 13e-15e are virtually identical. The images in group "f" show a double-wide mobile home with a small car parked on top of it. Image 12f shows the double-wide with the car on top in the middle ground and two other mobile homes to each side in the foreground. There is a sign which reads "Sierra Homes" on the double-wide with the car on top. Image 13f shows a different side of the double-wide with a car on top. There is a larger car and a pickup truck parked next to the mobile home. Image 14f shows a very similar image to that on 13f. Image 15f shows a portion of the mobile home and the car on top. Image 16f shows a shot taken from further away than the others. The double-wide and the car on top are visible, as are the larger car and pickup parked next to it, as well as one adjacent mobile home. The images in group "g" show a two-car garage and another structure which is partially covered by a large overgrown bush. Image 21g shows the right hand bay of the garage open and the structure with the overgrown bush. Image 22g is very similar to image 21g, but the negative appears darker. Image 23g shows a wider angle of the scene, making both bays of the garage visible. Image 24g and 35g are almost identical to image 23g. The images in group "h" show a large house and the Olympia Lacey Church of God. Image 42h shows the house and part of the yard. A pickup truck is near the cneter of the image. Image 43h shows a closer view of the house and driveway. Two vehicles are visible in the background parked in or near a garage. Image 44h is nearly identical to image 43h. Image 1h shows a similar scene to that of image 42h, but there is a fence visible in the foreground. Image 2h shows the Olympia Lacey Church of God. Printed in alternation along one edge of the strips in groups a-f is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM." Printed at intervals along one edge of the strips in groups g and h is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063.
