Misc. sports photos, unknown dates. These thirteen black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images come from five different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be divided into five groups based on the roll they originally came from. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with its physical number (ex: 17a, 17b, 17c, etc.). The images is group "a" show a boys' high school baseball game. The game is between the North Thurston Rams and an unidentified team. This unidentified team has a "C" on its hats and jerseys, so they may be from Centralia or Chehalis. Image 15a shows a player from North Thurston preparing to throw a pitch. His arm is extended out behind him. Image 16a shows the same pitcher, but his arm is moving forward and he is about to releade the pitch. Image 17a shows a player with the jersey number 31 rounding a base while a player with jersey number 7 watches. Image 18a shows a player swinging at a pitch, but it appears that the ball hit the ground and is about to hit the catcher in the facemask. Image 19a shows a player from North Thurston bringing his arm back in preparation to pitch. Image 20a shows the same pitcher having just released the ball. Image 21a shows a player running away from the camera toward a base. There is another player's right arm and right torso in the very near foreground on the left-hand side of the image. Image 22a shows a player fron North Thurston playing one of the bases and holding his mitt up. A player for the unknown team is leading off. Image 23a shows a catcher with his facemask off walking toward the left side of the frame while a different player crosses home plate. Image 24a shows a player having just hit the ball. The catcher is at the left edge of the image. Image 25a shows the unknown team's bench. Seven players in uniform sit on the bench, and two coaches stand behind the bench. Image 26a shows a player from North Thurston running with his hand and mitt together. A player with jersey number 7 is at the left side of the frame. Image 27a shows a player at the end of a swing. Some of the spectators are visible at the right side of the image. Image 28a shows a player far away from the camera about to release a throw Behind him is an empty set of bleachers. There is young man on a bicycle behind the fence. Image 32a shows the North Thurston catcher speaking to another North Thurston player. Image 33a shows a player running away from the camera and toward a base. There is a player for NorthThurston running toward the camera in the background. Image 34a shows a player sliding into third base while the third baseman fails to catch a ground ball. Image 35a shows a player for North Thurston having just released a throw from the outfield. A basketball hoop is visible toward the left side of the image. Image 36a shows the pitcher kneeling and about to release a throw back to the pitcher. Image 37a shows a player at right having just released a throw while a player in the background stands with his hands on his hips. Image 38a shows a batter at the end of a swing. The catcher and umpire are at the left of the image frame. The images in group "b" show at least two different boys' high school baseball games. At least three teams are shown playing: the North Thurston Rams, the Timberline Blazers, and the Tumwater Thunderbirds. Image 19b shows a player covering his head. He appears to be protecting himself from being hit by a baseball from above. Image 20b shows a player from North Thurston crouched in a field and facing toward the left side of the image. Image 21b shows a batter finishing a swing. The catcher and umpire are visible at the left of the image. Image 22b shows the same player finishing a second swing. Image 23b shows a player with jersey number 13 on the pitcher's mound facing away from the camera. A player from North Thurston is visible on first base in the background. Image 24b shows a player with a jersey number ending in 2 reaching up with both hands to catch a fly ball. Image 25b shows a player from North Thurston having just released a throw. The people are visible sitting on the roof of a tall structure in the background. Image 26b shows a Timberline pitcher about to release a pitch. Another Timberline player is visible in the background. Image 27b shows a batter from Timberline having just hit a pitch. A batter with a jersey number including a 5 is at the right of the frame. Image 33b shows a North Thurston batter facing toward the right of the frame and preparing for a pitch. A person on a bicycle is facing away from the camera at the center of the image. Image 37b shows another picture of the same crowd. The person on the bicycle is now at the right side of the image. Image 38b shows the spectators from much further away. The images in group "c" show a high school band playing at a boys' high school basketball game. Image 12c shows the band. A player with a tuba is at the center of the frame, and the game clock visible on the scoreboard shows that there is 2:46 left in the period. Image 13c shows the band playing. The tuba player is near the center of the frame. Image 14c shows the band playing from further away. The band's conductor is in the foreground facing away from the camera. Image 15c shows a large crowd watching the basketball game. In the right half of the frame are several young women in dresses with belts tied at the back. Image 16c shows the basketball game in progress. The players closest to the camera, from left to right, are numbers 31, 44, and 32. Image 17c again shows the game in progress, but here player number 34 is shooting a jump shot. The images in group "d" show a young man throwing a shotput. He is wearing a jersey which reads "T.C. Striders" (Thurston County Striders). Image 13d shows the young man close to releasing the shotput. Image 14d shows him even closer to releaseing the shotput. Image 15c shows him just after release of the shotput. Image 16d shows him preparing to throw a shotput. His jersey reads "T.C. STRIDERS." The images in group "e" show another baseball game. Image 33e shows a player with a number 6 on his jersey sliding into a base. Another player is trying to tag him out, while another is running past on the right. Image 34e shows a batter in glasses having just fouled away a ball.
Printed in alternation along one edge of all of these filnm negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
