Description

Unidentified people photos, unknown dates. These fifteen black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. The images included in this sleeve came from approximately eleven different film rolls, so many of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated one or more times. For the purposes of this description, the images from each separate film roll will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with their physical number (ex: 17a, 17b, 17c, etc.) in hopes of avoiding confusion. The images in group "a" show a man (C. Don Thompson) posing in front of awards inside the Lacey Leader office, and some trees. Image 1a shows Mr. Thompson posing for a photo in front of a wood panelled wall or door. He is facing somewhat toward the left side of the image, and he is being shown from the waist up. Image 2a shows the same man, now posing in front of at least six plaques/awards, His left hand is gesturing and his right hand is in his jacket pocket. He is being shown from the knees up. Image 3a shows the same man again posing in front of the awards. He is facing slightly toward the right of the image, and is being shown from the chest up. Image 4a shows the same scene, but the man is being shown from the waist up. Image 5a shows many trees with no leaves. The images in group "b" show a carpet, a blurry wall and doorway, a child with a plate, and three women going through some papers and/or letters. Image 1b shows a portion of a carpet which may have a stain on it, but this stain could be a discoloration of the film. Image 2b shows a blurry wall and doorway. There appears to be a person coming through the door. Image 3b shows a small child in overalls holding a paper plate that appears to have several round, fluffy objects on it. Image 4b shows three women kneeling on a carpeted floor and going through a large number of papers and/or letters. The women are working on two tables with short legs. The women are generally facing the camera. Image 5b shows the same scene, but from the women's left-hand side. Image 6b again shows the same scene, but from the women's right-hand side. Image 7b is nearly identical to image 6b. Image 8b shows the two women on the left sitting on their legs while the woman on the right is standing on her knees. Image 9b shows the women from slightly to the right of where image 8b was catpured. Image 10b shows all of the women facing downward. The images in group "c" show five people posing in front of a Christmas tree, the same five people posing in front of a fireplace with Christmas decorations, a man in a hunting store, and a man sitting at a desk. Image 3c shows five older people posing around a Christmas tree. The image is oriented vertically. Image 4c shows the same scene, but the image is oriented horizontally. Image 5c shows the same five poeple posing in front of a fireplace. The three women are sitting, and the two men are standing. Image 6c shows the same scene, but all five people are standing. Image 7c shows the same scene as image 6c, but the woman furthest to the left is mostly obscured by the man on the left. Image 8c shows the same scene as 7c, but the man on the far right is putting his left hand in his pocket. Image 9c is similar to the previous two, but the man on the right's left hand is all the way in his pocket. Image 10c shows a man looking at a bird decoy in a hunting store. Image 11c shows the man holding the bird decoy and looking toward the camera. Image 11c shows the man holding the bird decoy and looking off into the distance. Image 12c shows a man seated at a desk with a serious look on his face. Images 13c and 14c are nearly identical to image 12c. The images in group "d" show an older woman seated at a desk. Ken Balsley knew this woman as the owner of Worldwide Travel, but could only remember her first name, Levonne. On the wall behind her is a very large world map. All of the images on this strip are nearly identical. The images in group "e" shows a man in glasses speaking to a woman, the man in glasses shaken multiple different people's hands, and an office with no one in it. Image 2e shows the man in glasses speaking to a woman in glasses. Image 3e shows the man in glasses shaking the hand of a woman in a printed dress. Image 4e shows the man in glasses shaking the hand of a woman in a jacket. Image 5e shows the man in glasses shaking the hand of another man. Image 6e shows an empty office. Image 22h shows the child with its mouth closed. The images in group "i" show a man in a plaid suit. Ken Balsley remembered this man as the manager of Blume Realty, but could not recall his name. All of the images in this group are nearly identical. The images in group "j" show two men posing overlooking a marina. One man is wearing a captain's hat, and between the two men is a life preserver which reads "FIDDLE HEAD, OLYMPIA." Images 18j and 19j show the men looking toward eachothe. Images 20j-22j show the men looking toward the camera. The images in group "k" show a man in a striped tie sitting at a desk. Behind the man is a wood panelled wall with a small, framed photo hanging on it. Images 28k-31k are virtually identical, although image 30k is very light in this negative, so the positive image would be very dark. Image 32k shows the same scene, but the photographer has moved several feet to his left. C. Don Thompson was the owner of Lacey Realty, and the first president of the MAD Festival. Printed in alternation along one edge of the strips in groups a. b. c. h, and k is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM." Printed at intervals along one edge of the rest of the strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
