Description

Lakefair Award Winners, 2973. These six black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. At least three different film rolls were used to create these images, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated several times. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped by subject matter and which film roll the images originally came from. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter which will go along with the image's physical numbers (ex: 17a, 17b, 17c, etc.). The images in group "a" show a man with a name tag which reads "DALE HUME, PAST PRESIDENT" and a badge which reads "CAPITAL LAKEFAIR OLYMPIA" and "CAPITALARIAN." Mr. Hume is holding a microphone. Image 6a shows Mr. Hume facing the right-hand side of the image. There is a female child in a swimsuit standing next to him and facing away from the camera. Image 7a shows Mr. Hume with his body oriented in the direction of the camera and facing toward his right. He is holding a microphone up in the air. The images in group "b" show spectators watching a parade. Image 18b shows approximately twenty people seated on or near a sidewalk. At the center of the image is a male child with curly hair sitting on the curb. Image 19b shows approximately 15 people watching a parade. At the right side of the image is a man in shorts holding a small child. Image 20b shows a large number of people watching a parade. Visible in the parade is a 1920s or earlier-style automobile. Image 21b shows eleven people seated on a curb, presumably watching the parade. The images in group "c" show a young woman in a floral-print jacket holding a trophy. Image 24c shows the young woman with a smirk. Image 25c shows the woman wit a full smile. Image 26c shows the woman with a slightly lesss full smile. Image 27c is nearly identical to image 24c. Image 28c shows the woman looking at the trophy. Image 29c shows the woman again smiling. Image 30c shows the woman not smiling. The image in group "d" shows the same young woman from group "c" holding the same trophy. Image 30d shows the woman looking at the trophy. The images in group "e" show what appears to be the coronation ceremony for a beauty contest. Image 30e shows a young woman covering her face with one hand. Several other young women are visible behind her. Image 31e shows the woman who had her hand on her face in image 30e having a cape put on her shoulders. Image 32e shows the woman, now wearing a tiara, facing two older men, one of whom is facing away from the camera. Image 33e shows the young woman appearing to give a hug to a man holding flowers. Dale Hume was the City Supervisor for the City of Olympia and a member of the Capitalarians. Printed along one edge of each of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
