Skaters, unknown date. These five film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. All of these images show roller skaters; some solo, some in doubles, and some in larger groups. All of these images were taken at the Skateland roller rink in Lacey, Washington. Image 5 shows a male-female duo rollerskating in the direction of the camera. The young man is wearing a suit and they are they are holding both hands. Image 6 is very similar to image 5, but the rollerskaters are slightly further away from the camera. Image 7 shows the two rollerskaters in the same pose, but skating toward the left. Image 8 shows the duo only holding one hand and skating toward the camera. Image 9 shows a single male rollerskater in a vest skating toward the left of the image frame. Image 10 is nearly identical to image 9. Image 11 shows the skater in the vest standing and facing the camera. Image 12 shows a skater facing the camera and leaning forward with their right arm hanging down. There is a trophy on the ground next to the rollerskater. Image 13 is virtually identical to image 12. Image 14 shows four female rollerskaters standing in a line. The two rollerskaters in the middle are holding a very large plaque. Image 15 is very similar to image 14, but the right-center rollerskater is tilting her head to her left. Image 16 shows three rollerkaters leaned very far forward in unison. Image 17 is nearly identical to image 17. Image 18 one male and one female rollerskater skating toward the left sideof the image frame. Image 19 is nearly identical to image 18. Image 20 shows the male and female rollerskaters in the previous to images. The young man is seated on a bench and the young woman is standing with her left foot up on the bench. Image 21 is nearly identical to image 20. Image 22 shows a group photo with 23 rollerskaters posing. In a line in front of the front row are many trophies. Image 23 is nearly identical to image 22. Image 24 shows the same scene, but the photographer either moved closer to the scene or zoomed in. Image 25 shows one young woman and one young man rollerskating together. The young woman is skating in front. Image 26 is similar to image 25, but the skaters are further away from the camera. Image 27 shows the same two skaters seated on a bench and looking at eachother and laughing. Image 28 is nearly identical to image 27.
Ken Balsley related that Skateland's speed skating team won national speed skating awards and were internationally known within the sport.
Printed in alternation along one edge of each of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
