Tartan bagpipe, unknown date. These four black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show two young women in Celtic dance attire and a man in a kilt playing a set of bagpipes. Image 3 shows the man in the kilt at the center and one of the young women on each side of him. The two young women have their hands on their hips and the one on the right is raising her right leg. Image 4 shows a very similar scene to that of image 3, but the young woman on the right is crossing her legs. Image 5 shows a similar scene to the previous two images, but each of the young women are raising one arm above their heads. Image 6 shows a very similar scene to that of image 5, but the girls appear to be performing a dance. Image 7 is nearly identical to image 6. Image 8 shows again a similar scene, but each of the young women are extending one of their legs and pointing that toe. Image 9 shows a similar image to image 6. Image 10 shows the young women holding both arms up above their heads. Image 11 shows a very similar image to that of 10, but the photographer has either moved forward slightly or zoomed in. Image 12 shows the taller of the two young women standing next to the bagpipe player and the shorter of the two young women kneeling in front of them. Images 13 and 14 are nearly identical to image 12. Images 16 through 34 are not present. Image 35 shows the two young women standing next to eachother. Visible in the bottom left corner is a portion of the bagpipes. Image 36 shows the two young women with their right fists on their right hips. Image 37 shows a similar image to that of image 36, but their left arms are raised up over their heads. Image 38 shows a similar image to image 37, but the two young women are leaning toward their left. Image 39 shows the two young women with both fists on both hips. The bagpipe player is standing to the right, and the shorter of the two young women is looking at the taller young woman. Image 40 shows a very similar scene to that of image 39, but everyone is looking at the camera. Image 41 shows the bagpipe player standing in between the two young women, who are both standing with their arms in the air. The image was captured from a postion to the shorter young woman's right. Image 42 is very similar to image 41, but the two young women are looking toward the camera. Image 43 shows a similar scene to the two previous images, but here the two young women have both arms up in the air. Image 44 is nearly identical to image 43. Image 1 is similar to the previous two images, but here the two young women again only have one aim up in the air. Image 2 is nearly identical to image 1.
Ken Balsley believed the individuals shown in these images belonged to the Olympia Highlanders, a local pipe and drum band founded in 1974 to promote the traditions and culture of Scotland.
