Misc. sports, 1977. These eleven contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using at least five different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the images will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from, and these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 17a, 17b, 17c, etc.). The images in this series show young men playing basketball in the Saint Martin's College (now University) Marcus Pavilion, children playing soccer, a football game, a basketball game between the Saint Martin's Saints and the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes. The images in group "a" show young men playing basketball in a practice setting in Marcus Pavilion. There are two men present in Seattle Sonics attire, so the images may show a basketball camp or similar activity. Image 8a shows napkins being set out of a table. Image 9a shows a young man with a number 10 on his sweatpants taking a jump shot. A player with the jersey number 35 is attempting to defend. Image 10a shows the player with the number 10 on his sweatpants jumping up to take a jump shot while a player with a jersey number ending in 2 jumps up to try and defend. Several other players watch from the background. Image 11a shows a young man about to release a jump shot while a player with jersey number 45 is facing away from the camera in the foreground. One of the men in Seattle Sonice attire is visible in the background. Image 12a shows a player having just released a shot. Players with jersey numbers 33 and 20 are visible in the foreground. Image 13a shows a player with the ball turning toward his right as a second player defends. The player with the number 10 on his sweatpants is visible in the background. Image 14a shows a player in a sweatshirt and sweatpants handling the ball while two players, one with jersey number 10, attempt to defend. Image 15a shows one player about to release a jump shot while a player with jersey number 39 defends. Image 16a shows a man in Seattle Sonics attire standing and talking while holding up his right hand. A young man with the number 22 on his sweatpants is at the left edge of the image. Image 17a shows the same man in Sonics attire talking and holding his right arm out to his side. The basketball hoop is at the top center of the image. Image 18a shows a player with the number 23 on his sweatpants jumping up and about to release a hook shot. Approximately seven other players are nearby. Image 19a shows the two men in Sonics attire facing away from the camera and watching approximately nine young men play basketball. Image 20a shows one of the men in Sonics attire crouched down and defending against a player with jersey number 43. Image 21a shows a young man with a headband and wristbands handling the ball while a second player defends. Image 22a shows the two men in Sonics attire speaking to eachother. The image is captured from the left of the two men. Image 23a shows the two men in Sonics attire speaking to eachother, but this time the image was captured from roughly in front of these two men. Image 24a shows the two men in Sonics attire speaking with a third man. The taller of the two men in Sonics attire is pointing at something near the camera, and the third man is looking toward the camera. Image 25a is very similar to image 24a, but the third man is looking toward the men in Sonics attire. The images in group "b" show children playing soccer. According to the teams' jerseys, one team is representing Arctic Circle and the other is representing McKinney's. Image 18b shows two children, one with jersey number 7, the other with 5, running next to eachother and trying to get possession of the ball. Image 19b shows four children standing very near eachother while the ball hangs in the air between these four children and the camera. The only visible jersey number amongst these four children is 13. Image 20b shows a child with jersey number 13 jumping up in the air while the ball is also in the air aprroximately 6 feet above the child's head. Image 21b shows two children both attempting to kick the ball. The child on the right has jersey number 15. Image 22b shows a child facing toward the left-hand side of the image while four other children run toward her from the right-hand side of the image. Image 23b shows a child in an Arctic Circle jersey about to kick the ball while three other children run after him. Image 24b shows another child in an Arctic Circle jersey running with the ball as four other children run after him. Image 25b shows two children in McKInney's jerseys running after the ball as a child in an Arctic Circle jersey appears to be kneeling. The player closest to the camera has jersey number 4. Image 26b shows several children sitting and standing in a circle around a kneeling man with a beard. Image 27b is very similar to image 26b, but here there is one child on the left hand side of the image with his shirt off. Image 28b shows several child kneeling and standing in a rough circle. One of the children is holding what appears to be a cookie package. Image 29b shows a child kicking their leg very high and the ball hanging above them in the air. Two children with jersey numbers 18 and 9 are facing away from the camera. Image 30b shows four children standing in a jumble while an older child, who appears to be the referee, stands to the right of the four children. Image 31b shows two children nearly tripping over eachother trying to kick the ball as two other children run toward them from behind. Image 32b shows a child with jersey number 11 having just kicked the ball toward the goal. A player with jersey number 18 is near player number 11. Image 33b shows several children from each team running after the ball. The child closest to the ball is leaning forward. Image 34b shows a player from the Arctic Circle team dribbling the ball while several other children run toward him. Image 35b shows player number 13 for the McKinney's team dribbling the ball while player 14 from the Arctic Circle team attempts to steal the ball. Image 36b shows a player for the Arctic Circle team having just fell to the ground while player number 12 for the McKinney's team is nearby. Image 37b shows a player for the McKinney's team with the ball and leaning forward with both arms up and bent at the elbow. Image 38b shows one player from each team on the ground. Player 10 for the Arctic Circle team is facing away from the camera. The images in group "c" show a football game. Image 20c shows player number 42 carrying the ball over the 30 yard line. Image 21c shows one player carrying the ball and being tackeld, primarily by number 62 from the other team. Image 22c shows player 42 carrying the ball. Player 33 is at the left side of the image. Image 23c shows player 42 again carrying the ball. Player 12 is at the left of the image and player 33 is toward the right side of the image. Image 24c shows a player with a jersey number starting with 4 carrying the ball while approximately five members of the other team close in on him. Image 25c shows a side alongside a road. The sign reads, from top to bottom, "PACIFIC AVE," "OLYMPIA," "LACEY," "HOSPITAL," and "PANORAMA CITY." The image in group "d" show another children's soccer game. Image 27d shows four children going after the ball while a fifth child approaches from the left. Image 28d shows player number 22 dribbling the ball while player number 7 attempt to steal the ball. Many other children are nearby and three trucks labeled "LACEY FUEL" are passing in the background. Image 29d shows two children at the center of the frame, one of whom has the jersey number 19. The ball is at the extreme right edge of the image, immediately next to another child. Image 30d shows one child having just kicked the ball. The jersey numbers visible nearby are 19, 5 and 7. The images in group "e" show a basketball game between the Saint Martin's Saints and the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes at Marcus Pavilion. Image 23e shows number 50 for the Saints dribbling the ball. The scoreboard in the background shows that there is 4:15 left in the period. Image 24e shows player 50 for the Saints about to release a jump shot. Image 25e shows a player for the Saints with the ball in one hand and his other hand on the floor. Player 12 for the Lutes is defending. Image 26e shows number 40 for the Saints about to release a jump shot. Number 30 for the Lutes is between number 40 and the camera.Made/Created
