Description

Ms. WA Wheelchair, 1975. This single black and white film negative strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a woman (Jane Riese) wearing a tiara, cape and dress in a wheelchair crossing a street and entering the Lacey City Hall. Image 15 shows the woman from behind crossing a street. Image 16 shows the woman going from the sidewalk down onto the road. Image 17 shows her coming from the road back onto the sidewalk. Image 18 shows the woman going into the Lacey City Hall while a second person stands nearby. The Lacey City Hall sign is visible. Image 19 shows the woman entering the city hall and looking toward the camera. These images were likely captured for inclusion in an article in the Lacey Leader newspaper concerning Jane Riese, "Miss Washington Wheelchair" 1975, visiting Lacey to inspect the city's level of accessibility for people with mobility issues. Although the specific image shown in the Lacey Leader is not included in the image negatives in this sleeve, Ms. Riese is wearing the same outfit in both the newspaper photo and the image negatives, suggesting that they were captured during the same photo shoot. (Lacey Leader, 7/9/1975, pg.A3) Printed in alternation along one edge of this film negative strip is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
