Mormon Food Fair, 1975. These three black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show two women holding a painting of potted flowers and a man showing a woman a piece of kitchen equipment. Image 39 shows a woman from the mid-torso up. She has her left pointer finger in her mouth. Image 40 shows the woman from image 39 and a woman wearing a plaid jacket holding a painting of potted flowers. Image 41 is very similar to image 40, but the photographer has moved closer to his subjects. Image 42 shows a man in a jacket showing a piece of kitchen equipment to a woman seated next to him at a table. The man is looking downward and the woman is looking into the top of the piece of equipment. Image 43 shows a similar scene, but the man is also looking into the piece of equipment and the woman is smiling. Image 44 is similar to image 43, but the woman is no longer smiling. Image 1 shows the man and woman looking at eachother. Image 2 shows the man and woman looking at a pan that pulls out of the front of the piece of equipment. Both people are smiling. Image 3 shows the woman in profile and the man looking toward the camera. Image 4 shows the man and woman looking toward eachother. The woman is in profile. Image 5 is very similar to image 4, but the man is facing more directly at the woman. Image 6 shows a similar scene to image 5, but the photographer has moved to their left. There is a door or window visible at the right-hand side of the image. Image 7 shows the same scene as the previous images, but the image was captured from roughly the level of the table looking up toward the man and woman. The man is looking downward Image 8 shows a very similar image to that of 7, but the man is looking toward the woman.
Ken Balsley speculated that the piece of kitchen equipment is a food dehydrator, and that the connection to Mormonism concerns Mormons' belief in having one year's worth of preserved food stored in their homes at all times.
Printed in alternation along one edge of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
