Description

Fire on Elizabeth Ave., unknown date. These three black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show firefighters fighting a house fire. Image 36 shows three firefighters kneeling in the yard of a house which is on fire. This image was captured from a considerable distance from the home and the firefighters. A tree is at the center of the image and to the left of the firefighters. Image 37 shows the house on fire. The tree at the center of image 36 occupies the upper left quadrant of this image. There is a hose laying on the ground in the lower left quadrant of this image. Image 38 shows two kneeling firefighters from behind. The firefighter on the left is wearing a jacket which reads "LACEY FIRE DEPT." A tree occupies most of the background. Image 39 shows the two firefighters from image 38 from behind, and the one on the right is holding his left arm up to his face. Image 40 shows the two firefighters in the bottom left quadrant of the image. The firefighter further from the camera is holding a firehose and sparying the house with it. The image is oriented horizontally. Image 41 shows a very similar scene to that of image 40, but the image is oriented vertically. Image 42 is very similar to image 40, but the firehose is directed more vertically. Image 43 shows the two firefighters in the bottom right quadrant of the image. They are directing the firehose into the tree in front of the house. Image 44 shows three firefighters kneeling in the grass in front of the house. They are just to the left of the center of the image, and there are powerlines crossing the image near its upper left corner. Image 1 is mostly occupied by the tree in front of the burning house. The three firefighters are at the bottom of the image. Image 2 shows the three firefighters and the firehose is directed toward the front porch of the house. Image 3 shows the front of the burning house. No people are visible in the image. Image 4 shows three standing firefighters and one kneeling firefighter. The kneeling firefighter is handling the firehose. Image 5 shows two of the firefighters standing in the yard of the burning home. The firefighter on the right is holding his helmet in his right hand. Ken Balsley stated that Elizabeth Avenue is now (as of December of 2016) 14th Avenue. Printed in alternation along one edge of this film negative strip is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
